Booking and finding accommodation that is perfect for you can be daunting. The internet is full of options but it is often hard to narrow down the ones that work for your specific needs. We want to provide you with information that will help you make an informed choice. As everyone has different needs please feel free to phone or email us with your questions. If you have any special requirements, please just ask, we will do our best to accommodate your request. We are very happy to send additional photos if there is something in particular that interests or concerns you.
We know that accessibility is not just about wheelchair access.
You may find our 2 bedroom unit suitable. Located towards the back of the motel, this unit comes with a queen bed in the first bedroom and two singles in the other bedroom. (The bedroom will not be suitable for a powered wheelchair user). An additional sofa bed in the lounge, could sleep two. The bathroom has a level access shower area, shower seat, and grab rails are fitted by the toilet in the shower.
You may park your car right outside the room. The unit is accessed via ranch sliders with a small step. Our driveway is sloped and we are happy to help with any wheelchair access problems if required and appropriate. The walk or roll to the beach from street level is about 150 metres and has reasonable access, though beach ramps have not yet come to Paihia.
There are no steps from the pathway to access our pool, however it does have a child safety gate. Our pool is ground level and has a hand rail to provide some assistance with pool transfer. The wide steps on one side of the pool helps some guests, get in and out of the pool. You may find this a perfect spot to just be – with feet dangling in the water. Our above ground spa pool has stepped access and is without a handrail.
All televisions in our rooms display captions for the deaf and hard of hearing when they are broadcast. Captioning can be activated pushing a button on your TV remote. Please note that captioning is not required by law in New Zealand and much television is broadcast without it. (Many hotels and motels in New Zealand cannot display captions on their televisions).
A large print version of our Compendium is available at reception. We are very happy to email this to you in advance of your arrival if you would find this helpful.
And, yes, of course, if you have a registered assistance dog they can stay! Let us know in advance and we’ll make sure water and food bowls are in the room.
Mobility Scooters are available for minimal hire charge at the Bay of Islands i-Site, and are provided by the Tiaho Trust.
We know that many guests have had a bad experience of ‘accessible’ rooms and facilities. We want your stay with us to be accessible and enjoyable. Don’t be afraid to ask us for a photo if there is something specific you would like to see prior to booking. We will be happy to send you one.
